Duckface
“Duckface” är mötet mellan en serie nakna självporträtt och ett franskt månadsmagasin för kvinnor, som gavs ut i slutet på 60-talet.
Kvinnorollen är central i “Duckface”, och bilderna från den franska tidningen Pénéla känns igen från konstnärens egen barndom och uppväxt. Genom kopplingen mellan den egna kroppen och tidningsurklippen vill hon dra med åskådaren i en burlesk dans för att leka med klichéer och stereotyper på ett subtilt sätt.
Hon inspireras av surrealism och art brut. Även den skandinaviska melankolin känns närvarande. Hennes konstnärskap innefattar fotografi, collage, teckning, träsnitt, skulptur och performance.
Karin Crona är född i Järfälla 1968 och sedan 1999 bor och arbetar hon i Paris, Frankrike. Hon är utbildad vid Konstfack i Stockholm.
2018 blev hon nominerad till fotografi-priset Prix HSBC för sina collage och samma år ställde hon ut i festivalen Circulation(s) på konstcentret Le 104, samt på Institut Suédois i Paris.
Just nu medverkar hon för andra gången i konstbiennalen La Biennale d’Issy i Issy les Moulineaux, Frankrike på temat “Nutida porträtt, själens selfies. ”.
“Duckface” is the meeting between a series of nude self portraits and a French monthly magazine for women, published in the late 1960s.
The role of women is central to “Duckface”, and the images from the French magazine Pénéla are recognizable from the artist’s own childhood and upbringing. Through the connection with her own body and newspaper clippings, she wants to draw with the spectator in a burlesque dance to play with clichés and stereotypes in a subtle way.
She is inspired by surrealism and art brut. The Scandinavian melancholy is also present. Her artwork includes photography, collage, drawing, woodcuts, sculpture and performance.
Karin Crona was born in Järfälla 1968 and since 1999 she lives and work in Paris, France. She is educated at the National College of Arts, crafts and design in Stockholm.
In 2018 she was nominated for the photography award Prix HSBC for her collage and the same year she exhibited in the Circulation (s) festival at the Le 104 art center, as well as at the Institut Suédois in Paris. She is currently participating for the second time in the Art Biennale La Biennale d’Issy in Issy les Moulineaux, France on the theme “Contemporary portraits, selfies of the soul”.
