Tematiken är hämtad från barndomens och sagans värld. Där minnen och dagdrömmen formuleras till verklighet.
Almqvist låter skilda tidsepoker korsbefruktas och konsthistoriska referenser blandas med motiv tagna direkt ur hans egen tambur.
Inom dessa ramar får målningens tanke och känsla utvecklas i sin egen takt.
När Almqvist stiger in i sin ateljé stänger han porten till omvärlden, ingen släpps in i målningarnas tillblivelseprocess.
På så vis låter han sin bildvärld ta form för att där också finna något om tillvarons outgrundlighet. Resultatet blir berättelser från terrängen mellan dröm och vaka.

Dan Almqvist’s painting is figurative and narrative.
The theme is taken from the childhood and fairytale world. The reality of memories and daydreams.
Almqvist lets various epochs interbreed and art-historical references are mixed with motifs taken directly from his own tambour.
Within these frames, the painting’s idea and feeling will be developed in its own pace.
When Almqvist steps into his studio, he closes the gate to the outside world, no one is admitted into the process of creating the paintings.
In this way, he lets his visual world taking shape in order to find the inevitability of existence. The result is stories from the terrain between dream and awake.
