Welcome to the opening Thursday January 10 , at 5-8 pm
SPG has the pleasure of presenting Susanne Larsson’s glazed clay for the third time. She do paraphrasis on famous works from art history. It all began a few years ago in Venice with a painful yearning for Giorgione’s La Tempesta (The Storm, from the beginning of the 16th century).
Back home, she simply had to make a variation of the painting, but as a sculpture. She got the idea to transform old themes for the present. In her choice of motives, we will be aware that those theme of the pictures she shows are historical occurrence. The historical incidents repeated in our own time.
For example, through Susanne Larsson’s Relief Death Triumph, (Pieter Bruegel’s Apocalypse from 1562), leads the thoughts to several cruel events in our world and to the underprivileged moods that seem to be so characteristic of our own time, not least through TV series and films.
While the theme of Madonna and the child shows us the fragile life; what demands care and protection for our well-being. The loving encounter between children and modern gear hope. At the same time, something is bitter in this story, because we all know how it’s going to end once.
In Wattteau’s seemingly idyllic painting, we find ourselves in an elusive dream. Watteau’s jugglers are expected to delight and entertain us, but at the same time we experience their vulnerability. Susanne Larsson seems to identify herself with this ambivalent artist role.
The sculptures are presented together with Joakim Norrman’s atmospheric paintings, it adds an additional dimension to the rooms.
